Lohen at a Glance
Five answers that cover most of why people search for Lohen. Everything below goes deeper.

Who is Lohen?
A 5-star Cryo polearm character — the Vice Captain of the Knights of Favonius Fifth Company, released in Version 6.6.

Is he worth pulling?
Yes if you need a front-line Cryo DPS, especially for the 6.6 Melt comp with Durin and Nicole; a sidegrade if you already run Ganyu or Ayaka.

Best weapon
Disaster and Remorse (signature), then Primordial Jade Winged-Spear or Staff of Homa; White Tassel for F2P.

Best teams
Melt (Durin + Nicole), Freeze (Kokomi + Kazuha), and Mono Cryo (Ganyu + Shenhe).

Key constellation
C1 — extra Joy on Skill cast extends Masterstroke uptime by roughly 20%.
Should You Pull for Lohen?
Answer five quick questions to get a verdict for your roster. Lohen is a front-line Cryo DPS whose Masterstroke state and Hexerei chains shine in Melt teams alongside Durin and Nicole. Each question explains why it matters for the decision.
It depends on your roster
Answer the five questions to see whether Lohen's front-line Cryo DPS and Melt synergy fit your roster.
The verdict weighs your need for a Cryo DPS, your Melt teammates, and your investment level.

You are short. You still need about 15,000 Primogems on average.
Lohen Build: Weapons, Artifacts, Teams & Skills
Lohen is a front-line Cryo polearm DPS. His damage lives in theHexerei chains and the enhancedElemental Skill during the Masterstroke window. Build him for CRIT and ATK, run a Cryo DMG goblet, and keep 120-130% Energy Recharge so the Burst is ready every rotation.

Best Weapon
Disaster and Remorse
Signature polearm. CRIT DMG plus a Hexerei-chain bonus active for the full window.

Best Artifact Set
A Day Carved From Rising Winds
4pc BiS. Its CRIT bonuses are active for the entire Masterstroke window.

Best Weapons

Disaster and Remorse
Signature608 base ATK · 66.2% CRIT DMGHis signature polearm and the clear best-in-slot. It provides CRIT DMG and a Hexerei-specific damage bonus that is active for the entire Masterstroke window, which perfectly overlaps with Lohen's damage. Because his damage is concentrated in the Hexerei chains and the enhanced Skill, the passive covers his whole damage phase.

Primordial Jade Winged-Spear
608 base ATK · 33.1% CRIT Rate
The strongest non-signature alternative. Its passive stacks ATK on each hit, and because the Hexerei chain lands four rapid hits, it reaches full stacks quickly. Roughly 8-10% behind the signature weapon but a standard-banner 5-star many players already own.

Staff of Homa
608 base ATK · 66.2% CRIT DMG
A strong niche pick. Its HP-scaled ATK% passive is less useful for Lohen, but the CRIT DMG alone makes it competitive: within 3% of the signature weapon in a Freeze comp where the passive uptime is easier to maintain.

Calamity Queller
741 base ATK · 16.5% ATK
The highest base ATK of any polearm, with a stacking ATK% passive that triggers on Elemental Skill. Lohen casts his Skill twice per rotation, so the passive reaches most of its stacks during his damage window. Roughly 9-11% behind the signature weapon.

White Tassel
401 base ATK · 23.4% CRIT Rate
The best free-to-play option. It provides CRIT Rate and a Normal Attack damage bonus that directly amplifies the Hexerei chains, which are classified as Normal Attacks under Masterstroke. About 20% behind the signature weapon but requires zero pulls.

Missive Windspear
510 base ATK · 27.6% ATK
The best 4-star event polearm. Its passive grants ATK% and Elemental Mastery when a reaction is triggered, and since Lohen triggers Melt constantly, uptime is near-permanent. The second-best F2P option after White Tassel.

Deathmatch
454 base ATK · 36.8% CRIT Rate
The best 4-star stat stick. Its high CRIT Rate dramatically eases artifact requirements, letting you stack CRIT DMG everywhere. Battle Pass only, and about 22-24% behind the signature weapon in single-target.
Best Artifacts

A Day Carved From Rising Winds (4pc)
His best-in-slot set. Two pieces give 18% ATK, and the four-piece effect grants a stacking CRIT Rate and CRIT DMG bonus when the wearer uses their Elemental Skill — which Lohen does to enter Masterstroke. The bonus is active for the entire window, so it amplifies every Hexerei chain and the enhanced Skill. Farmable in the 6.6 domain.

Blizzard Strayer (4pc)
The Freeze-team alternative. Its four-piece bonus grants up to 40% CRIT Rate against Frozen enemies, dramatically reducing the CRIT Rate you need from artifacts. Only works in Freeze comps where enemies are actually Frozen.

2pc ATK + 2pc ATK
The budget option while you farm the best-in-slot set. A flat 36% ATK bonus with no conditionals, reliable across every team archetype. Roughly 15% behind the 4pc BiS set but available immediately from strongboxes.

Echoes of an Offering (4pc)
A situational RNG pick. A 36% chance per Normal Attack hit to trigger an extra damage instance. Because Hexerei chains are Normal Attacks, each hit can proc it, but the variance is not worth the farm unless you already have a fully optimized set.

Emblem of Severed Fate (4pc)
A burst-focused niche. It converts Energy Recharge into Burst damage bonus, and since Lohen needs 120-130% ER anyway, the bonus is nearly free. But his damage is dominated by the chains and enhanced Skill, so Emblem only competes when heavily invested in Burst.

Best Teams
6.6 Melt (Durin + Nicole)
Premium

Lohen + Durin + Nicole + Kazuha / BennettHis strongest team. Durin's off-field Pyro is tuned to Lohen's chain cadence, triggering Melt on every Hexerei hit, and Nicole amplifies the damage window. Front-loaded burst pairs perfectly with Abyss chamber timers.
F2P Melt (Xiangling)
F2P

Lohen + Xiangling + Bennett + SucroseThe budget version of the Melt comp, fully free except for Lohen. Xiangling applies off-field Pyro with Pyronado, Bennett provides the ATK buff and healing, and Sucrose groups and shares Elemental Mastery. Roughly 15% behind the premium comp but clears the Abyss comfortably.
Freeze
Safe

Lohen + Kokomi + Kazuha + RosariaTrades raw damage for safety and consistency. Blizzard Strayer's 4pc gives up to 40% CRIT Rate against Frozen enemies, letting you stack CRIT DMG. Roughly 15-20% behind the Melt comp but far more forgiving.
Mono Cryo
Alternative

Lohen + Ganyu + Shenhe + KokomiStacked Cryo damage for enemies where you cannot Melt. Shenhe's Icy Quill buffs each Hexerei chain hit individually — extremely effective because the chains hit four times. The pick when you need Cryo damage but have no Pyro enabler.
Reverse Melt
Niche

Lohen + Rosaria + Bennett + XianglingFlips the reaction order: Rosaria and Xiangling trigger Reverse Melt on Lohen's Cryo application. Team damage is more balanced across four characters, useful against bosses that resist single-target nukes.
Physical Superconduct
Niche
Lohen + Fischl + Rosaria + FlexA niche comp that uses Lohen's physical Normal Attacks outside Masterstroke, with Superconduct shredding physical RES. Only worth running in physical-friendly content.
Skills
Normal Attack: Hexerei
Performs up to 4 consecutive spear strikes. Under Masterstroke, Normal Attacks convert to Hexerei chained strikes dealing Cryo DMG that scale per hit: 100 / 108 / 116 / 124% at Lv.1, rising to 198 / 213 / 228 / 243% at Lv.10. The back half of the chain carries more damage, so never cancel it early.

Skill: Masterstroke
Enters the Masterstroke state, converting a full Will to Win meter into 100 Joy. Normal Attacks become Hexerei chains and the Skill gains an enhanced version (Lv.1 180%, Lv.10 297%) that spends Joy for a burst of Cryo DMG. The 6s cooldown starts when Masterstroke ends.

Burst: Coup de Grace
Deals massive AoE Cryo DMG — 580% at Lv.1, 967% at Lv.10. Costs no Joy, which is why the optimal rotation saves it for the end of the Masterstroke window. 80 Energy cost, 15s cooldown.
Talent priority: Elemental Skill first, then Normal Attack, and the Burst last. The Skill is the highest single-hit multiplier and opens Masterstroke; the Hexerei chains (which scale with Normal Attack) are your sustained damage.
Passive Talents

Vanguard's Resolve
Gains 25% extra Will to Win when hitting enemies with Normal Attacks, accelerating the charge between Masterstroke windows.

Cold Front
CRIT Rate increases by 8% while in the Masterstroke state, effectively reducing the CRIT Rate you need from artifacts.

Knights' Logistics
Refunds 15% of materials when crafting Polearm talent-up materials. A quality-of-life passive that reduces long-term farming cost.
Constellation Priority
Usable
Fully functional in all team archetypes. The Hexerei chains under Masterstroke are available at base constellation. You do not need constellations to deal competitive damage.
Best value
Casting the Elemental Skill grants 4 extra Joy, extending Masterstroke uptime by roughly 20%. The best damage-per-primogem in his kit.
Strong
While in Masterstroke, party members gain a 15% Cryo DMG Bonus. Strong in Melt and Mono Cryo teams.
Skill level
Increases Elemental Skill level by 3, raising the enhanced Skill's base multiplier.
Utility
Hexerei chain hits restore 1 Energy each, improving Burst uptime across the rotation.
NA level
Increases Normal Attack level by 3, raising every Hexerei chain hit.
Capstone
Hexerei chain damage gains a 40% multiplier and the final hit triggers an additional Cryo blast. Whale-only, but a massive capstone.
Uplift figures are relative to a C0 baseline, from the 6.6 beta kit cross-checked with community testing on HoYoLAB.
Investment guide: Pull him at C0 and stop — both his weapon and constellations are optional. C1 is the best-value stop, extending Masterstroke uptime by ~20%. After C1, prioritize the signature weapon, which provides a larger damage increase than C2 for fewer Primogems. Only chase C6 for challenge-mode optimization.
Lohen vs Rosaria vs Ganyu
The three most common Cryo main DPS comparisons. Lohen wins on Melt synergy and front-loaded burst, Ganyu wins on ranged safety, and Rosaria wins on support value and accessibility.

Lohen
Front-line Cryo DPS

Rosaria
Cryo support / sub DPS

Ganyu
Ranged Cryo main DPS
| Dimension | Lohen | Rosaria | Ganyu |
|---|---|---|---|
| Role | Front-line Cryo main DPS | Cryo support / sub DPS | Ranged Cryo main DPS |
| Melt synergy | Excellent | Good | Excellent |
| Survivability | Medium | Medium | Low (ranged) |
| Constellation value | C1 high | C6 high | C0 fine |
| F2P friendliness | High | Very high | Medium |
| Best home | 6.6 Melt (Durin + Nicole) | Reverse Melt / battery | Freeze / Melt |
Bottom line: Lohen is not a direct replacement for either. Ganyu is ranged and safer, Rosaria is a support/battery, and Lohen is a front-line main DPS whose Hexerei chains shine in the 6.6 Melt comp with Durin and Nicole. If you already own a built Cryo main DPS, Lohen reads as a sidegrade rather than an upgrade.
Team Archetype Ratings
A quick rating across the six viable archetypes, so you can pick based on what you value most: single-target damage, AoE, comfort, or budget. S = top tier, A = strong, B = good, C = niche, D = poor.
| Team | Single-Target | AoE | Comfort | F2P | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 6.6 Melt (Durin + Nicole) | S | A | B | D | Highest single-target ceiling; requires Durin and Nicole. |
| F2P Melt (Xiangling) | A | A | B | S | Best F2P value; only requires Lohen himself. |
| Freeze (Kokomi + Kazuha) | B | S | S | C | Safest and best for many small mobs. |
| Mono Cryo (Ganyu + Shenhe) | B | A | B | D | Best against non-Cryo enemies without Pyro enablers. |
| Reverse Melt (Rosaria + Xiangling) | A | A | C | B | Balances team damage; less spikey than front-loaded Melt. |
| Physical (Fischl) | C | C | B | S | Niche; only for physical-themed content. |
Lohen Pros, Cons & How to Play
A quick read on where Lohen excels, where he falls short, and how to run him in a rotation.

Pros
Front-loaded burst window
All damage lands in a short Masterstroke window, ideal for Abyss chamber timers.
Elite Melt synergy
Four rapid Hexerei chain hits consume Pyro aura efficiently — the best Melt trigger cadence among polearm DPS.
Fully functional at C0
The core kit is complete at base constellation; constellations are power, not necessity.
F2P weapon-friendly
The 3-star White Tassel is genuinely competitive, closing most of the gap to his signature weapon.
Self-contained resources
Will to Win generates without field-time pressure, letting the rest of the team set up first.
Cons
Short, interruptible window
Miss Masterstroke timing or get staggered mid-chain and you lose a large share of the rotation.
Melt-reliant ceiling
Without a Pyro applier, damage drops roughly 50% on every hit; the ceiling requires Durin or Xiangling.
Energy-hungry rotation
The 80-cost Burst needs 120-130% ER to guarantee each cycle, eating a stat slot.
Melee positioning
Hexerei chains have a forward arc and can whiff on mobile or small enemies without grouping.
Roster-gated value
As a sidegrade to Ganyu/Ayaka, his perceived value drops sharply if you already own a Cryo DPS.
How to Play (Rotation)
Melt Comp rotation
- 1Set up buffs and auras: Kazuha Burst (VV shred + grouping), Nicole Skill (amplification), Durin Skill + Burst (off-field Pyro).
- 2Swap to Lohen and cast his Elemental Skill to enter Masterstroke, converting full Will to Win into 100 Joy.
- 3Fire the Hexerei chain x4 — each hit consumes the Pyro aura and triggers Melt.
- 4Cast the enhanced Skill to spend remaining Joy on his highest single-hit multiplier.
- 5If Joy allows, start a second Hexerei chain; then close with the Burst as the finisher when Joy runs low.
Freeze Comp rotation
- 1Kokomi applies Hydro off-field while Kazuha groups enemies and shreds Cryo resistance with Viridescent Venerer.
- 2Rosaria provides CRIT Rate and a second Cryo body for resonance.
- 3Enter Masterstroke and run the Hexerei chains — enemies are Frozen, so Blizzard Strayer grants up to 40% CRIT Rate.
- 4Spend Joy on the enhanced Skill, then finish with the Burst. Enemies cannot attack while Frozen, so the window is forgiving.
Core principle: Will to Win is the gate, Joy is the fuel. Never cast the Skill with a partial Will to Win meter — you lose the duration extension and the damage amplification, cutting effective damage by roughly 30 percent. Spend Joy on the enhanced Skill and the back half of the chain, where multipliers peak.
Lohen's Story: The Aggressive Vanguard
Who Lohen is, why the Cuniculus Chapter matters, and how the 6.6 trio became his signature team. Understanding the story behind the kit explains why he plays the way he does.

Background
The Vice Captain Who Fights From the Front
Lohen is the Vice Captain of the Knights of Favonius Fifth Company, a remote scouting unit based far from Mondstadt's city walls. Despite commanding a unit of ranged marksmen, he carries a polearm and fights from the front — a contradiction that defines both his personality and his kit.
His aggressive, win-at-all-costs combat style is captured in a recurring line, "I'll close the distance myself." It is why his kit is built around the dual resources of Joy and Will to Win: he literally wills himself to win as the fight goes on, then spends that will as raw offense.
Vice Captain, Fifth CompanyFavonius Fifth CompanyKnights of FavoniusVersion 6.6
The Cuniculus Chapter
His story quest, the Cuniculus Chapter, follows his return to Mondstadt during the 6.6 "Luna VII" events. It explores why he left the city and his rivalry-turned-alliance with the alchemist Rhinedottir's old associates.
Thematically, the quest mirrors his gameplay: Lohen learns that even a front-line fighter needs the team behind him — which is why his best team is the 6.6 trio of Lohen, Durin, and Nicole, not a solo carry.
Cuniculus ChapterLuna VII eventsRhinedottir's old associatesThe 6.6 Trio
Durin, Nicole, and the Melt Comp
Lohen, Durin, and Nicole form the core of the 6.6 storyline, tied to Rhinedottir's associates. Their gameplay synergy mirrors the story: Lohen front-lines while Durin and Nicole enable him.
Durin's off-field Pyro is tuned to Lohen's Hexerei chain cadence, triggering Melt on every chain hit. Nicole amplifies the damage window. This is why the 6.6 Melt comp is both a gameplay and a narrative team.
Durin (Melt enabler)Nicole (amplifier)Rhinedottir's associates
Key relationships
Durin
The Melt enabler. His off-field Pyro is tuned to Lohen's chain cadence, making the 6.6 Melt comp Lohen's strongest team.
Nicole
Provides Pyro resonance and a damage amplification buff that scales Lohen's Hexerei chains.
Rhinedottir's associates
The 6.6 storyline ties Lohen, Durin, and Nicole to the alchemist's old circle.
Knights of Favonius
Lohen commands the Fifth Company, a remote scouting unit, as its Vice Captain.
Ganyu
The closest main-DPS comparison — ranged and safer, while Lohen deals more front-loaded Melt damage.
Ayaka
Another Cryo main DPS benchmark: stronger in classic Freeze, weaker in the Melt comp.
In their words
Lohen, in combat
"I'll close the distance myself."
Lohen, on the Fifth Company
A unit of marksmen — and I'm the one carrying a polearm into the fray. The men stopped questioning it long ago.
Lohen, on his team
I used to think charging in alone was strength. It took the Cuniculus Chapter to teach me otherwise.

Farming Routes & Costs

Frostcore Crystal
168 needed, 48-hour respawnThe longest grind. Spawns on cold surfaces near ice flows and mountain ridges in the 6.6 region. The 48-hour respawn forces multiple real-time days, so start early or use a friend's world to double your daily yield.

Cryoregal Core
46 needed, ~4-6 weeksDropped by the new 6.6 weekly boss. You only get 1-2 per week, so it takes roughly 4-6 weeks to collect all 46. Start the week Lohen releases and never skip a weekly kill.

Ballad books
186 books, Wed/Sat/Sun onlyFarmed in the Forsaken Rift domain in Mondstadt on Wednesday, Saturday, and Sunday. Use Condensed Resin to halve the Resin cost and double the yield per run.

Mirror of Mushin
18 needed, ~6 weeksA weekly boss drop for talent upgrades. You need six per talent across three talents. Use Dream Solvent to convert other weekly boss drops if you get the wrong material.
Common Mistakes to Avoid
Frostcore Crystal is the longest grind
You need 168 of them with a 48-hour respawn, so they cannot be rushed with Resin. Start gathering the moment Lohen is announced.
The weekly boss is the true gate
Cryoregal Core and Mirror of Mushin only drop from the 6.6 weekly boss, one or two per week. Missing a week sets you back a full week.
Crown the Skill and Normal Attack
Crown the Elemental Skill first, then Normal Attack. Only crown the Burst if you have surplus Crowns — it is a single hit per rotation.
Farm Ballad books on their days
The talent book domain only opens Wednesday, Saturday, and Sunday. Spend your daily Resin there once the local specialty and insignias are done.
Convert drops upward, do not re-farm
Use the alchemy table to convert lower-tier insignias and gems upward, and Dream Solvent to fix wrong weekly boss drops.
Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers to the most common Lohen questions.
Who is Lohen in Genshin Impact?
Lohen is a 5-star Cryo polearm character released in Version 6.6 on May 20, 2026. He is the Vice Captain of the Knights of Favonius Fifth Company and fights on the front line using a dual-resource kit built around Joy, Will to Win, and the Masterstroke state. His damage is concentrated in the Hexerei chains, a four-hit Normal Attack sequence that fires during Masterstroke and benefits from Melt reactions.
What element and weapon does Lohen use?
Lohen is a Cryo (ice) character who wields a polearm. All of his damage instances are Cryo, which means a Cryo DMG Bonus goblet is always correct and he synergizes with Cryo resonance and Cryo-specific supports like Shenhe.
Is Lohen a 5-star character?
Yes, Lohen is a 5-star character. He is a limited banner character, meaning he is only available on his rate-up banner during Version 6.6 and future reruns, not on the standard banner.
When is Lohen's release date?
Lohen released in Version 6.6 (Luna VII) on May 20, 2026, alongside Nicole. His banner ran for the first half of the version, with Nicole on the second half. Future reruns depend on the banner schedule.
Is Lohen worth pulling?
Lohen is worth pulling if you need a front-line Cryo DPS, especially if you own Durin or Nicole for a Melt team. He is a sidegrade if you already have a built Cryo main DPS like Ganyu or Ayaka. His value comes from the 6.6 Melt comp, which is one of the strongest Cryo teams in the game, so if you have the enablers, he is a clear pull. If you do not own Durin or Nicole, consider whether you want to invest in the full team before pulling.
How does Lohen's Joy resource work?
Joy is generated when Lohen enters the Masterstroke state via his Elemental Skill, which converts banked Will to Win into Joy. Joy is then spent on Hexerei chained Normal Attacks and enhanced skills. Each Hexerei chain hit costs Joy, and the enhanced Skill spends all remaining Joy. When Joy runs out, Masterstroke ends. The cap is 100 Joy per window, so the goal is to spend it on the highest-multiplier actions.
How does Will to Win work?
Will to Win accumulates through combat as Lohen deals and takes damage. When it is full, casting the Elemental Skill converts the charge into Joy and opens the Masterstroke state. A full Will to Win also extends Masterstroke duration and amplifies enhanced skill damage. The key is to wait until Will to Win is full before casting the Skill, because entering Masterstroke early shortens the window and reduces total damage.
What is the Masterstroke state?
Masterstroke is Lohen's enhanced combat state, entered via his Elemental Skill when Will to Win is full. While active, Normal Attacks become Hexerei chains (four rapid Cryo hits), his Skill gains an enhanced version that spends Joy for burst damage, and he gains a CRIT Rate passive. The state lasts until Joy is depleted, so managing Joy spend is the core skill expression.
What is the Hexerei combo?
Hexerei is the chained Normal Attack sequence Lohen performs under Masterstroke. The optimal loop is: Skill to enter Masterstroke, four Hexerei Normal Attacks (which trigger Melt if Pyro aura is applied), an enhanced Skill to spend remaining Joy, and the Burst as a finisher. This loop maximizes Joy spend on high-multiplier actions and ensures every chain triggers Melt.
What is Lohen's best weapon?
His signature polearm Disaster and Remorse is best-in-slot because it provides CRIT DMG and a Hexerei-specific damage bonus that is active during the entire Masterstroke window. Primordial Jade Winged-Spear is a strong 5-star alternative, roughly 8 to 10 percent behind. The free 3-star White Tassel is the best F2P option, roughly 20 percent behind but requiring zero pulls.
What are the best artifacts for Lohen?
A Day Carved From Rising Winds (4pc) is his best-in-slot set because its CRIT bonuses are active for the entire Masterstroke window. Blizzard Strayer (4pc) is strong in Freeze teams because it grants up to 40 percent CRIT Rate against Frozen enemies. Use an ATK% sands, a Cryo DMG goblet, and a CRIT Rate or CRIT DMG circlet, aiming for a 1:2 CRIT ratio.
What are the best team comps for Lohen?
The 6.6 Melt comp with Durin and Nicole is his strongest team because Durin's off-field Pyro is tuned to Lohen's chain cadence, triggering Melt on every Hexerei hit. Freeze comps with Kokomi and Kazuha are safer and more consistent, relying on Blizzard Strayer's CRIT bonus. Mono Cryo comps with Ganyu and Shenhe work against non-Cryo enemies where Melt is not possible.
How good are Lohen's constellations?
Lohen works at C0. C1 is the best value because it grants 4 extra Joy on Skill cast, extending Masterstroke uptime by roughly 20 percent. C2 adds a 15 percent team-wide Cryo DMG bonus during Masterstroke. C6 is the capstone, giving Hexerei chains a 40 percent multiplier and an additional Cryo blast on the final hit. Stop at C1 unless you are a whale, and prioritize the signature weapon before chasing C2 or higher.
Is Lohen good at C0?
Yes. Lohen is fully functional at C0 in all team archetypes. His core mechanic, the Hexerei chains under Masterstroke, is available at base constellation. Constellations, especially C1, add value but are not required for him to deal competitive damage in the Spiral Abyss.
Is Lohen F2P friendly?
Yes. At C0 with the free White Tassel and a 2pc ATK artifact set, Lohen is fully functional and can clear all endgame content. His signature weapon and constellations are optional upgrades that increase damage by 15 to 25 percent but are not required. The main F2P consideration is whether you own a Pyro applier like Xiangling, who is free and enables the Melt comp.
Who voices Lohen in Genshin Impact?
Lohen is voiced by Nick Wolfhard in English, Lin Jingnan in Chinese, and Amasaki Kohei in Japanese. The voice direction emphasizes his role as a front-line commander, with a confident and direct tone in combat lines.
What is Lohen's birthday?
Lohen's birthday is April 3. On his birthday, players receive a mail from Lohen with a gift, typically including a local specialty from his region and a dish he cooks.
What is Lohen's role in the Knights of Favonius?
Lohen is the Vice Captain of the Knights of Favonius Fifth Company, a remote unit. Despite leading a ranged unit, he prefers to fight on the front line with his polearm. This is reflected in his kit, which is a melee front-line DPS rather than a ranged support, and in his story quests, where he is shown leading from the front.
How does Lohen compare to Ganyu?
Both are Cryo main DPS units. Ganyu is ranged and excels in charged-shot and AoE comps, while Lohen is a front-line melee DPS whose Hexerei chains shine in Melt teams with Durin and Nicole. Lohen has better Melt synergy because his chains hit four times rapidly, consuming Pyro aura efficiently, while Ganyu's charged shots are single-hit. Ganyu is safer at range, Lohen deals more damage in the Melt comp.
Does Lohen need his signature weapon?
No. Primordial Jade Winged-Spear and the free White Tassel are viable alternatives. His signature polearm is an upgrade of roughly 8 to 10 percent over Jade Winged-Spear and 20 percent over White Tassel, but it is not required for him to function. Prioritize the signature weapon only if you have surplus primogems after deciding on constellations.
What is Lohen's talent priority?
Prioritize the Elemental Skill first, because it is the highest single-hit multiplier and the core of the kit. Level the Normal Attack second, because the Hexerei chains scale with it and account for the bulk of sustained damage. Level the Burst last, because it is a finisher and not the main damage source. Crown the Skill and Normal Attack, and only crown the Burst if you have surplus Crowns.
How much Energy Recharge does Lohen need?
Lohen needs 120 to 130 percent Energy Recharge to guarantee his Burst every rotation. If you run a Cryo battery teammate like Rosaria or a second Cryo character for resonance, you can drop to 110 percent. Test your rotation in the Spiral Abyss: if the Burst is not ready when the loop comes back around, add more Recharge until it is. Do not run zero Recharge, because the Burst is part of the energy economy that keeps the rotation clean.
What CRIT ratio should I aim for on Lohen?
Aim for a 1:2 CRIT Rate to CRIT DMG ratio. With the Cold Front passive granting 8 percent CRIT Rate during Masterstroke, you can lean slightly toward CRIT DMG. A strong endgame target is 50 percent CRIT Rate (42 percent on artifacts plus 8 percent passive) and 150 percent CRIT DMG. Prioritize CRIT Rate first so the Hexerei chains crit consistently, because each chain is a separate hit that can crit independently.
What are Lohen's ascension materials?
Lohen's ascension materials are Shivada Jade (Cryo gems), Frostcore Crystal (a new local specialty from the 6.6 region, 168 total), Knight's Insignia (Fatui common drop), and Cryoregal Core (a new weekly boss drop, 46 total). The local specialty and common drops can be pre-farmed before release, but the weekly boss drop cannot, making it the true bottleneck.
Can I pre-farm Lohen's materials before release?
Yes, except for the weekly boss drops. Pre-farm the Frostcore Crystal (local specialty, 48-hour respawn), Knight's Insignia (Fatui drops, no limit), Shivada Jade (Cryo bosses), and Ballad talent books (Wed/Sat/Sun domain). The Cryoregal Core and Mirror of Mushin come from the new weekly boss and can only be obtained after release, so start farming them the week Lohen releases and never skip a weekly kill.
Is Lohen good in the Spiral Abyss?
Yes. Lohen is a strong Spiral Abyss pick in the Melt comp, where he can clear single-target and small-mob chambers efficiently. His front-loaded burst window pairs well with Abyss chamber timers. He is weaker in chambers with Cryo-immune or Cryo-resistant enemies, where you should swap to a different DPS. In Freeze comps, he is safer but deals less damage.
What is Lohen's best Melt teammate?
Durin is the best Melt teammate because his off-field Pyro application rate is tuned to Lohen's Hexerei chain cadence, triggering Melt on every chain hit. If you do not own Durin, Xiangling is the strongest substitute because her Pyronado applies consistent off-field Pyro, though she has high energy needs. Dehya and Thoma also work but with lower application rates and correspondingly lower damage.
Does Lohen work in a Freeze team?
Yes. Lohen works in a Freeze team with Kokomi, Kazuha, and Rosaria. The comp trades raw damage for safety and consistency, relying on Blizzard Strayer's 4-piece bonus for 40 percent CRIT Rate against Frozen enemies. It is roughly 15 to 20 percent behind the Melt comp in damage but is far more forgiving in the Spiral Abyss because Frozen enemies cannot attack.
What is Lohen's best F2P team?
The best F2P team is Lohen, Xiangling, Bennett, and Kazuha (or Sucrose as a F2P Kazuha substitute). Xiangling provides off-field Pyro for Melt, Bennett provides an ATK buff and healing, and Kazuha or Sucrose groups enemies and shreds resistance. This team is fully F2P except for Lohen himself and deals competitive damage in the Spiral Abyss.
What does Lohen's ascension stat scale with?
Lohen's ascension stat is CRIT Rate, granting 24 percent at max ascension. Combined with the Cold Front passive (8 percent during Masterstroke), he has a built-in 32 percent CRIT Rate from his kit, which is why CRIT DMG is heavily preferred on artifacts and the circlet.
What are the exact Hexerei chain multipliers per hit?
The Hexerei chain multipliers per hit are 100 percent, 108 percent, 116 percent, and 124 percent at talent level 1, scaling to 198/213/228/243 percent at talent level 10. The back half of the chain (hits 3-4) carries more damage, so never cancel the chain early.
How long does the Masterstroke state last?
Masterstroke lasts 12 seconds base and is extended to 16 seconds when Will to Win is full at the moment of casting the Elemental Skill. Each Joy spent is a second not counted against the timer, so managing Joy spend effectively is what sustains the window, not the timer itself.
Does Lohen apply Cryo on every Hexerei hit?
No. Lohen's Cryo application follows the standard 2.5-second / 3-hit ICD, so only every third chain hit applies a fresh Cryo aura. In a four-hit chain, expect roughly 2 Meltable hits. This is why the 6.6 Melt comp with Durin works: his off-field Pyro is tuned to this exact cadence.
Is Lohen a Main DPS or a Sub DPS?
Lohen is an on-field Main DPS. His damage is concentrated in the Hexerei chains and enhanced Skill, which only fire while he is active and in Masterstroke. He does not provide off-field support, so build the team around giving him field time during his window.
What team does Lohen need for Spiral Abyss Floor 12?
For Floor 12, run the 6.6 Melt comp (Lohen, Durin, Nicole, Kazuha/Bennett) against Pyro-appliable enemies. Against Cryo-immune floors, swap Lohen out entirely or use the Freeze comp with Blizzard Strayer. Lohen's front-loaded burst window pairs well with chamber timers on single-target and small-mob floors.
Should I pull Lohen if I already have Ganyu?
Only if you want the Melt comp. Ganyu is ranged and safer, while Lohen deals more front-loaded damage in the 6.6 Melt comp. If you own Durin and Nicole, Lohen adds a team you do not have. If you only have Ganyu and no Pyro enablers, Lohen is a sidegrade rather than an upgrade.
Is Lohen better than Ayaka?
In the Melt comp, Lohen's front-loaded burst window deals more single-target damage than Ayaka's sustained Freeze output. In Freeze teams, Ayaka is generally stronger due to her easier rotations and Blizzard Strayer synergy. Choose based on team: Lohen for Melt with Durin/Nicole, Ayaka for classic Freeze.
What artifact main stats does Lohen need?
Lohen needs ATK% sands, Cryo DMG Bonus goblet, and CRIT circlet (Rate or DMG depending on your ratio). His ascension and passive CRIT Rate mean you can lean heavily toward CRIT DMG on the circlet. Substats in priority order: CRIT Rate, CRIT DMG, ATK%, Energy Recharge.
What is the optimal Lohen rotation?
The optimal rotation is: team buffs setup (Kazuha Burst, Nicole Skill, Durin Skill + Burst), then Lohen Skill to enter Masterstroke, Hexerei chain x4, enhanced Skill, a second Hexerei chain if Joy allows, and the Burst as the finisher. This spends Joy on the highest-multiplier actions and ends with the no-Joy Burst.
How many Melts does Lohen trigger per rotation?
Lohen triggers roughly 4 to 5 Melts per Masterstroke window: the enhanced Skill, hits 1 and 4 of the first chain, and hit 1 of the second chain. Because of the 2.5-second ICD, not every chain hit Melts, which is why building the team around the correct application cadence matters more than raw Pyro application.
What is Lohen's Energy Recharge requirement?
Lohen needs 120 to 130 percent Energy Recharge to Burst every rotation, dropping to 110 percent with a second Cryo character for resonance and battery. His Skill generates 3-4 Cryo particles, so external particles from teammates are still needed to fuel the 80-cost Burst each cycle.
What is the difference between Joy and Will to Win?
Will to Win is the charge resource built before Masterstroke (through combat, 100 cap). Joy is the spend resource during Masterstroke (also 100 cap), generated when the Skill converts a full Will to Win meter. You build Will to Win to enter, then spend Joy to deal damage — they are the gate and the fuel.
What happens if I cast Lohen's Skill with a partial Will to Win meter?
Casting the Skill with a partial Will to Win meter enters Masterstroke with less Joy, a shorter duration, and no enhanced-skill damage amp. This cuts effective damage by roughly 30 percent over the rotation. Always wait for a full meter before casting the Skill.
Is Lohen viable in the open world?
Yes. His burst window clears world bosses and elite enemies efficiently, and his front-loaded damage is overkill for open-world mobs. The main caveat is that Will to Win needs combat to charge, so in the overworld you enter Masterstroke slightly less often than in Abyss, but his normal attacks are still solid.
What weapon should I use if I have no 5-star polearms?
White Tassel is the best F2P option, providing CRIT Rate and a Normal Attack damage bonus that scales the Hexerei chains. Missive Windspear is the best event polearm with higher base ATK. Both are roughly 20-25 percent behind the signature weapon but fully clear all endgame content.
Does Lohen need a shield?
Not strictly, but a shielder or healer helps because getting staggered mid-chain wastes the highest-multiplier hits. Bennett's healing and Kazuha's grouping usually suffice. If you face heavy knockback (e.g., Vishap floors), consider Thoma or Zhongli in the flex slot.
How does Lohen compare to Rosaria?
Rosaria is a support/sub DPS with a strong CRIT Rate buff and off-field Burst, while Lohen is a dedicated on-field Main DPS. They fill different roles entirely: if you need a main DPS, Lohen; if you need a Cryo support/battery, Rosaria. They also pair well together in Lohen's Freeze comp.
What is Lohen's best talent to crown?
Crown the Elemental Skill first (it is the highest single-hit multiplier and core of the kit), then the Normal Attack second (the Hexerei chains scale with it and are the bulk of sustained damage). Only crown the Burst if you have surplus Crowns.
Is Lohen better at C0 or C1?
C1 is the best value constellation, granting 4 extra Joy on Skill cast and extending Masterstroke uptime by roughly 20 percent. It is a direct damage increase of roughly 10-12 percent. Most players should stop at C0 or C1 and prioritize the signature weapon before chasing C2 or higher.
What does Lohen's C6 do?
C6 (Masterstroke Apex) grants Hexerei chains a 40 percent damage multiplier and makes the final chain hit trigger an additional Cryo blast. It is Lohen's capstone but costs five additional copies, making it a whale-only investment. For most players, C0 or C1 is the optimal stopping point.
Does Lohen work with Shenhe?
Yes. Shenhe's Icy Quill buffs each Hexerei chain hit individually, which is extremely effective because the chains hit four times and each can trigger a Quill charge. Lohen + Shenhe is a strong pairing in both Mono Cryo and Freeze comps. She is Lohen's best Cryo support.
What is the Cuniculus Chapter about?
The Cuniculus Chapter is Lohen's story quest in Version 6.6. It follows his return to Mondstadt, explores why he left the city, and shows how he learns to trust teammates after years of charging in alone. Thematically it mirrors his gameplay: a front-line fighter who needs the team behind him, which is why his best team is the 6.6 trio.
Is Lohen connected to Durin and Nicole in the story?
Yes. Lohen, Durin, and Nicole form the core of the 6.6 storyline, tied to Rhinedottir's associates. Their gameplay synergy mirrors the story: Lohen front-lines while Durin and Nicole enable him. This is why the 6.6 Melt comp is both a gameplay and a narrative team.
What is Lohen's signature weapon passive?
Disaster and Remorse provides 608 base ATK and 66.2 percent CRIT DMG at level 90. Its passive grants CRIT Rate and a Hexerei-specific damage bonus when the wielder is in an enhanced state, which is active during the entire Masterstroke window — the strongest possible uptime for the passive.
How much does the signature weapon improve Lohen over White Tassel?
Disaster and Remorse is roughly 20 percent stronger than White Tassel and 8-10 percent stronger than Primordial Jade Winged-Spear. It is the largest single damage upgrade available to Lohen, but the F2P White Tassel build is still fully viable in the Spiral Abyss.
Should I pull Lohen's weapon or constellations first?
The signature weapon provides a larger damage increase per primogem spent than constellations past C1. The recommended order is: C0, then the signature weapon, then C1, then stop. Only chase C2+ if you are a whale or want to maximize him for challenge modes.
Is Lohen good against Cryo enemies?
No. Lohen deals only Cryo damage, so he is completely ineffective against Cryo-immune enemies. Against Cryo-resistant enemies, he works but deals reduced damage. Always check the Abyss floor's enemy composition and swap Lohen out for a non-Cryo DPS when needed.
What is the best weapon for a Freeze Lohen?
In a Freeze comp, Disaster and Remorse remains best-in-slot, but Staff of Homa closes the gap to within 3 percent. Blizzard Strayer's CRIT Rate bonus means you can stack CRIT DMG on the circlet and artifacts, making high-CRIT-DMG weapons like Homa and Deathmatch stronger in this archetype than in Melt.
Does Lohen need Elemental Mastery?
Yes, but only as a minor stat in Melt comps. Because Lohen triggers Melt (2x), Elemental Mastery from Sucrose's sharing or substats adds meaningful reaction damage. It is not worth a main stat slot, but an Elemental Mastery roll on a piece with good CRIT substats is never wasted in the Melt comp.
Why Trust This Guide
Most pages ranking for "Lohen Genshin" are sprawling wiki entries, paywalled build guides, or top-up shops using leaked info to sell Primogems. We built this page to be the opposite: a single, complete, ad-free reference for one character only.
